Spironolactone & Acne, Does it Work?

Spironolactone has many uses.

It is typically prescribed for heart conditions and edema, but is also commonly used to treat conditions related to excess androgen hormones, such as acne.

spironolactone
Should you take spironolactone for acne?

Spiro is a diuretic, meaning it helps rid your body of water and sodium.

It does this by competing with aldosterone, a steroid hormone that's main role is to regulate water and salt in your body.

✨It is dehydrating you, which puts strain on every body system

Many women who are prescribed spiro have been diagnosed with PCOS, have terrible PMS, have alleviated testosterone and/or have ACNE.

👉 Spiro can lower levels of androgens (sex hormones, such as testosterone), by blocking testosterone at the receptor.

😢 Unfortunately, this does not fix the root cause (elevated testosterone), so more often than not, your acne will come back after you discontinue use.

So... the answer is NO!

👉 You should not take spiro to clear your skin. It may give you temporary results...

... but it will not give you lasting results, and it will put strain on your body in the meantime.

✨ To address the root causes of high androgen hormones, you must…

  • Work on your gut health

  • Make sure you are detoxifying well

  • Lower your stress hormones

These actions will give you lasting results!
