I'm addicted to butter It's hands down my favorite food, no contest. Not pizza, not nachos, not burgers. Creamy, BUTTER.
I put it on everything.
You may be thinking, "Isn't butter bad for you?"
Well, truth is, butter (organic, grass fed and finished, unsalted or sea salted) is an extremely nutrient dense food that is rich in fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, K... all of which are essential for healthy hormones.
The problem is, many women struggle with dairy. If dairy is causing you to break-out, or if you have a hard time digesting dairy, there are 2 things you need to focus on.
Optimizing your gut health
Trying raw dairy
Here is why:
When your gut is healthy it's more efficient at digesting lactose
Raw milk helps your body make lactase, the enzyme that digests lactose
For years I could tell that butter, cheese, milk, yogurt and ice cream were contributing to my hormonal symptoms. Namely acne and unwanted hair growth. My gut was in shambles, and my symptoms were proof. As soon as I healed my gut, I was able to tolerate dairy again, no problem. So why am I telling you all this? Well... I often get asked, "Do I need to be dairy-free to balance my hormones? And my answer is, kinda. It can be helpful to be dairy-free while healing your gut, but the good news is, you don't have to be dairy-free forever. Once your gut is healed, you should be able to handle quality dairy products with no issues. But first you need to optimize your gut health. Check out my next post, to learn EXACTLY how to do that.
